LA - Novel packets are now late.  "Where I'm From" poems are due Tuesday, May 29th.

Math - large-ish test coming up on Monday and Tuesday.  Please complete your review packet by Thursday.  Take it home if you need to!  Keep practicing your facts etc, even on Sumdog or Timez Attack.

SS - continue working on Creating Your Culture project - all up to end of Food should be complete.

French - repurposing projects are due and will be presented on Wednesday, May 30th.

Other - Penny / coin drive is still going on, send in those pennies!
          - Middle Level is going on a field trip on June 13th.  Please send in permission slips and $10 ASAP.

May 22 - 25

LA - We are finished reading our novels!  All questions in the work packet need to be done by Friday.
     - "Where I'm From" poem is due Tuesday, May 29th.  We will work on it a little every day, but at this point the "see / hear / touch " etc sheet should be completed, as well as the template sheet / first draft.

         - Middle Level is going on a field trip to the Hunstman Marine Centre and St. Andrews area.  Please have your permission slips and $10 in by Friday (as soon as possible!)

May 14 - 18

LA - students are reminded to finish reading their novels by next Wednesday, as well as all questions and journals for sections 1, 2 and 3.
      - Several students have not yet corrected their explanatory reports, or handed in their biographies.  Please get these in as soon as possible!

Math - test Tuesday on unit 6: Geometry and Measurement
          - complete your surveys about game systems for Thursday's class

Science - test Friday and title page sketch

Social Studies - creating your culture: finish the sections in your booklet about geography, dwellings / houses and family structures.  You get to decide these things, but everything needs to make sense based on what you've decided so far!

Other - Student Council is having a penny drive to support the school, as well as local and global causes.  Please send in your pennies!  The highest-raising class will win ice cream treats!

          - PLEASE have a look at home for class library books.  We have lost several over the course of this year, and I have a feeling many of them are hiding under couches and beds and in closets.  Thanks!

April 30 - May 3

LA - Biographies, information and sources are due Thursday, May 3rd
         Questions and journals for the first 2 sections of your lit circle book
         Read to the end of the 3rd section of your book for next Wednesday's group meeting

Other - Our very own Christa McKeil has been nominated for Northumberland Dairy's Pure New Brunswick Heroes contest.  We all know the amazing work she does as a volunteer for the kids at our school and in our community.  Please take a moment each day, until May 6th, to cast your vote for her in the competition.  The site is http://www.purenbheroes.ca  .  Click on "vote" under Christa's picture, and then confirm and submit your choice.

April 16 - 19

LA - Some students need to complete / re-do the explanatory report.  Remember, the words have to be your own, you should not have even a complete sentence that is exactly what you read in the book or online.  The outline or web that you made BEFORE you wrote needs to be handed in, as well as the list of sources (books and websites you used)
     - Read the first section in your group novel
     - Choose a person to write a biography on

Scienc - pennies and nickels

SS - bring supplies to make your heritage fair project.  These are due (must be completely finished by) Thursday, April 26th.

April 10 - 12

Science - science fair Thursday, all day.  Students will be presenting their projects to the school, one class at a time.  Projects will be left up for parents to see at student-led conferences.

Other - Book Fair is going on, it will be open Thursday evening and Friday morning during student-led conferences.
         - Student-led conferences are Thursday evening from 6-8 and Friday morning from 8:30-11:30.  Notices have gone home with students to book times with teachers.  Looking forward to seeing you there!

March 26 - 30

LA - Explanatory report due Wednesday.  Includes the outline or web that you used for planning, as well as the self-check sheet.

February 27 - March 2

2 pieces of writing have gone home, a "how-to" and a descriptive report.  These have been marked with comments to help your student move along in their writing.  Please send these pieces back signed once you've had a chance to look them over, as we need to keep student work on file.

A progress report went home a couple of weeks ago, but several students have not yet returned theirs.  If you have the report or have seen it, please return it or a note that you have seen it as soon as possible.


LA - we have been working on writing about characters.  Students need to finish up the 2 paragraphs about their characters - one comes right out and tells us about them, the other tells us 3 things about them without saying "he is tall", for example, "he ducked coming through the doorway to avoid hitting his head".  Due Wednesday.
       Summary / rewrite about Leap Year - due Thursday

Math - worksheets on Grocery Shopping and Pizza buying - Wednesday
         - find out  the size (litres) of your family car's gas tank, and about how far you can travel

SS - stamp stories (these are for a contest on Canadian heritage, they do not need to be entered in the contest, but do need to be completed for Wednesday)

February 13 - 17

LA - debates must be ready to present (practiced!) Tuesday
      - 2 pieces of writing have gone home (how-to and descriptive report).  Please sign and return them.

Other - skating continues this Thursday, bring skates, helmet, gloves / mitts
           - Valentine's day is Tuesday, there is no need to bring in treats or Valentines, but if you do, please bring enough for the whole class (18 students)

December 12 - 16

LA - Christmas writing is due Thursday.  Make sure to double check with the CAMET standards, and pay extra attention to the things you struggled with (editing, paragraphing, word choice, sentences / connecting words)

SS - letter to a friend from you, pretending you have moved far away.  Tell your friend about the culture in your new place - language, school, food, clothing, etc.

We are working on angles, and have learned to find and classify angles around us, as well as the sum of the angles in a triangle or quadrilateral (any 4-sided object)

We are working on staying either in the past or present tense while writing, as well as different points of view (1st person vs 3rd person)

French - "un robot a l'ecole" book.  Neatly done in colour, all pages have pictures and writing on them.

A new fundraiser, coupon peeler cards, has gone home with students.  These cards are a great deal and a nice stocking stuffer.  Cards for various cities in the Maritimes can be purchased; they are not limited to the Fredericton area.
